The Stolen Lives Campaign advocates for ending the inappropriate detention of people with learning disabilities and autistic people in secure hospitals.
While the Welsh Government has said that it supports moving people out of hospitals and into their own homes progress has been slow, with Wales regressing from its pioneering 1983 All Wales Strategy.
Stolen Lives families are often not believed. This Report tells the truth: Hospitals cause untold harm to people with learning disabilities and their families.
We welcome the work of the Stolen Lives Task and Finish Group (Part of the Learning Disability Ministerial Advisory Group) and Welsh Government’s commitment to addressing the recommendations set out in this report. The vital next step is to ensure that those recommendations are delivered at pace. Stolen Lives welcomes the opportunity to be involved in making this happen.
